Fleur have brought out this brilliant range of copper patinas which include real metal elements in it to give it a genuine effect.
It’s a fairly simple process providing you use the products in the right way and what’s fantastic about these products is that they are water based, can be used on any surface (wood, metal, plastic, glass), and have an extremely realistic outcome.
There’s so much that you can do with this and it’s really quite simple (and exciting) to use!
As with most of my advice, definitely experiment with different tools, techniques and preps as you’ll find that you can achieve so many different outcomes.
Here’s a few different effects that I was able to achieve…
How it's done...
STEP 1.
If you have a non absorbent surface, apply the primer. Then let it dry for 30 minutes
STEP 2.
Lay the first coat of colour with a paint brush. Let it dry between 1-3 hours before applying a second coat of colour. Give the second coat another 1-3 hours to dry.
Here are the base colours
- Copper
- Copper Light
STEP 3.
Apply the activator in a random way. For maximum effect you could use something like a sponge, spray or drip. The more random, the better! This is to give it a genuine rustic look.
Here is the reagent
- Copper Verdigris Activator
Let the activator dry to the point that the verdigris effect is showing. This will take around 1-2 hours.
STEP 4.
If you want to add more resistance, apply two coats of the Anti-Oxidant Varnish, waiting 2-4 hours in between coats.

My Top Tips:
- I don’t always prep, but if you want to you can use the Fleur Primer for Verderame
- Don’t let the base coat completely dry out otherwise you won’t get any reaction
- If you are after a consistent look, you need to make sure it’s prepped consistently. Applying primer in some areas and not others will show as you later apply the activator
And that’s it!! So have fun with it, I would suggest testing it out on a piece of wood or cardboard before going straight onto your furniture.
