I’m Kate Holt, the founder of Colour Me KT. I have been painting and upholstering furniture for more than twenty years after first transforming my daughter’s bedroom and discovering how powerful a simple furniture makeover can be. That first project quickly grew into a passion for breathing new life into old pieces.
Interiors have always played a major role in my life. My husband Tony and I have owned a flooring business for more than twenty five years and our home has always been filled with rescued finds. Tony has a real talent for saving furniture before it is thrown away and long before the word “upcycling” became popular he was bringing home forgotten treasures from skips, front gardens and even a bonfire. Restoring furniture has simply become part of who we are.
Today Colour Me KT is a busy furniture refinishing studio and shop in Hoddesdon. I specialise in professionally painted and reupholstered furniture, custom commissions, and hands on workshops that teach people how to update their own pieces with ease. My workshops are designed for beginners and experienced painters who want to learn new techniques, discover Fusion™ Mineral Paint, and gain confidence with skills like prepping, painting, blending, distressing, stencilling, and upholstery basics.
As an official Premium Fusion™ Mineral Paint retailer and an accredited Fusion™ Mineral Paint Educator, I stock the full range of Fusion colours and other paint and upcycling essentials in store and love helping people choose the right products for their projects. I am also part of the Fusion™ Mineral Paint UK and Europe social media team and an admin of one of the largest Fusion™ Mineral Paint Facebook groups in the country.
My work has been recognised nationally and I am regularly invited to events such as Grand Designs, Handmade Fair, Ideal Home Show, and other leading interiors and lifestyle shows to teach visitors how to transform furniture. Sharing these skills and making upcycling accessible is something I am incredibly passionate about.
Alongside Colour Me KT I am the co-organiser, along with Sarah Pelley of Home Revival of the Painters Business Academy, the world’s only two-day immersive conference for furniture painters and creative business owners. Supporting and growing this community is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.
